Please be more specific. Which dvd::rip and transcode versions do you 
use? What's the DVD audio codec (ac3, pcm?), what the target codec (mp3,
mp2, vorbis, pcm)? Which lame version do you have (in case of mp3), 
which mjpegtools (in case of mp2), which ogg tools (in case of vorbis)?

And just to be sure: did you check the cables of your PC sound system?

rar is used to create compressed vobsub files for mplayer, and mplayer 
can read only files created with rar <= 2.99. You can download a proper
version from dvd::rip's contrib directory:
