This is a restriction of transcode's cluster mode. It needs transcode's
import_vob filter, which has the splitting abilities necessary for
cluster mode. import_dvd (which is used for transcode DVD images) can't
navigate through the image data.
But there is a workaround (which probably should get an official feature
of dvd::rip, although it's somewhat nasty... ;): point the DVD device
entry in dvd::rip preferences dialog to the vobcopy DVD image, switch
over to dvd::rip's default "rip to harddrive first" mode and "rip" the
title again from that image. Now you have a VOB structure which is
compatible with transcode's cluster mode. And now you know why called
this nasty: ripping twice isn't really nice, although the second rip
goes really fast, since it's more or less a simple copy of data located
on your harddrive.

Hmm, what's not robust with "ripping, cropping and even transcoding"?
