Hi there!

As it seems, there are quite a lot of problems with dvd::rip right now, which probably relate to the fact, that so many dependencies (libraries, external programs) have to be fulfilled.[1]

It is not the fault of the author if you or your distro is unable to satisfy simple dependencies mentioned both on the project's site and in the changelog.

dvd::rip works *perfectly* for me in gentoo because the package specifies the dependencies it needs. I've even provided ebuilds for recent versions, and the dependencies are no problem at all - the package manager simply ensures that the requirements are met, which is one of its primary purposes.

If your package manager is unable to satisfy dependencies, then either the manager is broken or the package itself is broken. In either case, you should log a bug with your distro's maintainers.

On the same note, if your distro provides a broken transcode package (which is appariently common), that is also the responsibility of your distro's maintainers and not the author of dvd::rip.
