I don't think that this problem is either related to transcode or new 
kernel version. I've always used the 0.52.x series without any problems, 
 and I begun to have this issue when I switched to 0.98.1.
Even more, executing in a shell to same exact transcode command executed 
by dvd::rip gives no problems at all.
And to be precise, tccat does not "sit in memory forever" but for 
example when you grab a preview it goes on to stream ALL dvd; so when 
the progress bar is at the end to unlock dvd::rip you can execute a 
"killall -9 tccat" and you'll have your preview.

So I believe this is in some way related to the different sub-process 
handling of 0.98.x versus 0.52.x.
As always any help/hint is accepted...
