I don't think that this problem is either related to transcode or new kernel version. I've always used the 0.52.x series without any problems, and I begun to have this issue when I switched to 0.98.1.
Even more, executing in a shell to same exact transcode command executed by dvd::rip gives no problems at all.
And to be precise, tccat does not "sit in memory forever" but for example when you grab a preview it goes on to stream ALL dvd; so when the progress bar is at the end to unlock dvd::rip you can execute a "killall -9 tccat" and you'll have your preview.

So I believe this is in some way related to the different sub-process handling of 0.98.x versus 0.52.x.
As always any help/hint is accepted...

I pointed out this also in this thread, see

I would be happy to help the developers and provide the debugging
information but so far nobody replied to my messages neither in my mailing
list nor in the transcode's.
Maybe due to chronical lack of time (so fast review), I've just missed
the
message in transcode's mailing list.

Neverthless, tccat 1.0.x has known problems except when dealing with
directories containing multiple files (tipically, vobs).
There are plans for improving and hopefully fix all issues, but they
are related to new 1.1.x branch. Branch 1.0.x isn't easy to fix.

There is a tentative patch here:
http://www.transcoding.org/cgi-bin/transcode?Bug_Showcase

but seems to work only in some cases.
in my case tccat does not really crash (seems like this is the issue
described at the link above), it just sits in memory forever and because
of that dvd::rip freezes. Is it one of the problems developers are going
to address?

When is 1.1 going to be released?

Kirill
