Usually these directories have the same base, but probably one want's to
change that, e.g. to distribute reading (.vob) and writing (.avi) I/O on
different physical disks.
In your case, wouldn't be setting a symlink to accomplish path
compatibility between your hosts a simpler solution? (Or do you use a
limited file system like vfat? That would be bad ;)
