Hi all -
I have been enjoying the newest dvd::rip 0.98.4...
keep up the good work! :-)
Just FYI - I've noticed that, since I upgraded to
0.98.4, the resulting AVI files are roughly 20-30%
larger than what I specify in the "Target Size"
field (using NTSC DVDs).
I have tried both 29.97fps and 23.976fps sources,
and long (3:30 hours) and short (30 min) titles
with proportionally similar results. I've used the
"PSU core" with some rips, some without. As a side
note, the V-rate does not get calculated unless I
click on one of the other tabs ("By Quality" or
"Manually") first, then click back to the "By target
size" tab again. Audio/video synchronization of the
resulting AVI is perfect, and there are no further
issues other than the resulting file size.
My setup:
- Intel P4 3.0GHz HT, 1GB RAM
- Fedora Code 6, kernel 2.6.18-1.2798 SMP
- transcode 1.0.2-11
- perl 5.8.8-10
- dvd::rip 0.98.4
Misc settings:
- xvid codec, keyframes set at 25
- 2-pass encoding with "smart deinterlace"
- 128kbit/s MP3 audio at 48KHz sample rate, rescale=1.0
- Use "-M 2" transcode option
- Some with "PSU core", some without.
Comments/questions welcome,
Dave Chavez
