Hello,
I'm new to dvd::rip and the world of video encoding in general. I want to
learn the details, but right now I'm concerned about getting a project off
my desk.
I have been asked to rip and encode a stack of DVDs of a friends public
access show and post them to Google Video. The show is an interview type
show so video quality is not vital. Being basic cable I can probably cut
some corners with audio as well. It needs to be clear, but theres no
reason to go all out.
What dvd::rip settings would give me the fastest encoding time and a
web-appropriate quality level?
Once I have these settings is there a way to save/export those settings?
If there is I'll make sure the website for the show shares those settings
so others can use them.
For reference Google Video suggests
(http://video.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=26562&topic=8690):
- MPEG4 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 2 mbps
- MPEG2 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 5 mbps
- 30 frames per second
- 640x480 resolution
- 4:3 frame
- de-interlace
The DVDs I have are -R's in NTSC format. The shows are either 28 or 56
minutes long.
I run Ubuntu Edgy on an AMD 3000+(ish) system if that matters.
Thanks for your help! dvd::rip looks like a well thought-out tool and I
hope to learn to use it well and support it where I can!
